What are educators saying about Jeannette?

Jeannette Wilt and I worked together in the Brandywine School District for eight years and served together both on the BEA Executive Board and the DSEA Executive Committee. I have seen her at work as a beloved math teacher at Brandywine High School, as a tireless recruiter of new members in her role as membership chair, as a champion of good education policy in her role as legislative chair, and as a leader in her role as resolutions chair to the NEA. Wherever there is organizing work to be done, Jeannette is there, mostly behind the scenes, rolling up her sleeves and getting to it.

Most recently Jeannette has been DSEA Treasurer and Vice President, stepping into the latter role to fill the gap created by the former VP's resignation. Stepping in and stepping up is what Jeannette does best. She is dedicated to serving her fellow teachers with an admirable sensitivity to the diversity that exists within the organization. DSEA represents educators up and down the state of all political stripes, personal backgrounds, and professional experiences. It takes a true desire to understand different perspectives, to collaborate, and to build consensus to lead such a large organization of many voices. Jeannette has that desire, and the patience and persistence to work toward uplifting the profession even when progress is slow and incremental because she understands that lasting change often takes months or even years of nurturing partnerships and building coalitions.

My name is Mary Pinkston. I am a career-long member of the Brandywine Education Association (BEA) and served as treasurer for several years. I am happy to endorse Jeannette Wilt for the position of Delaware State Education Association (DSEA) Vice President. I have had the opportunity to work with Jeannette at Brandywine High School for almost two decades. Throughout the years, she has not only been a supportive teaching colleague, but also an advocate for the promise of public education. Jeannette has held many positions within both the BEA and DSEA. Through her local and state association work, Jeannette has amassed a great deal of experience, working with students, teachers, administrators, District office personnel, political candidates, Legislators, and community members. Jeannette works hard to be sure that teacher voices are heard when decisions are made. Jeannette Wilt possesses the characteristics that I think will help her perform the task of empowering and representing the professionals who work tirelessly each day with our young people. Jeannette for VP.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary E. Pinkston, M.Ed.

I have known Jeannette Wilt both personally and professionally for over six years. She has worked tirelessly for both her local association and the DSEA in the various positions she has held. She has extensive experience working with the DSEA executive board as the Treasurer. In addition, she was my mentor for my first NEA-RA in Minneapolis in the summer of 2018. It was very helpful to have a veteran walk me through my first NEA Representative Assembly. I am in awe of Jeannette's dedication to local and national educational initiatives to help teachers and students.

The examples of why Jeannette Wilt is the best person to represent DSEA as the Vice President, to serve our membership in the best way possible are too many to list. I wholeheartedly support her as a candidate, without reservation.

The DSEA needs and deserves the leadership of Jeannette Wilt. I have had the pleasure to know Jeannette for over a decade and have worked with her side by side in the local union. As a member there is no one I trust more than Jeannette. All DSEA members need to be heard. Jeannette and I do not always see eye to eye on every issue, but she has an open mind and listens to all members. Let your voice be heard...Vote for Jeannette Wilt as Vice President of the DSEA.

I fully support Jeannette Wilt for DSEA Vice President. I have known Jeannette for many years, first meeting her on the DSEA Executive Board. Jeannette has worked tirelessly for the educators of Delaware since becoming a Building Rep in the Brandywine School District in 2005. Her leadership skills go above and beyond due to her commitments but not limited to the DSEA Executive Board and being DSEA treasurer. She has represented the educators not only in Delaware but across the country through various endeavors and committees with NEA. Jeannette is not afraid to speak up or speak out on any topic. She has maintained good relationships with members of the community, the education world, and legislators. Jeannette would make an excellent Vice President.

Jeannette Wilt is a dedicated member of DSEA and valued throughout the Delaware teaching community. Jeannette proudly serves her school, her district, and her state as a voice for all teachers and students. As President of the Computer Science Teachers Association in Delaware, I have had the privilege and pleasure of working with Jeannette Wilt as a colleague in Computer Science and as an advocate for equitable practices and social justice in education. Jeannette has been a voice for teachers as part of the Brandywine Education Association and will be an excellent addition to the Delaware State Education Association as Vice President.

I want to encourage everyone to vote for Jeannette to continue serving as DSEA Vice President. Why?

  • Jeannette is the only candidate for Vice President with DSEA leadership experience, having served as both DSEA Vice President and Treasurer.

  • She has extensive leadership experience at both the state and local levels. For DSEA, she has served as chair of the Finance Committee and Resolutions Committee, helping to craft our Association's belief statements.

  • Jeannette has served on the DSEA Board since 2011. This longevity has provided her with experience and insight that is vital to the future of our union.

  • She regularly attends national conferences and represents Delaware in Washington DC, meeting with other NEA leaders from across the country.

I could go on, but the choice should be clear. Vote for Jeannette Wilt for DSEA Vice President!

I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of my colleague and friend, Jeannette Wilt. I have known Jeannette since the summer of 2018, when we met at the University of Indiana where we were both attending the InfoSys Computer Science training program along with educators from all over the country. It was definitely coincidental that we ended up as roommates for sure, as we learned that we both lived in Delaware. However, it was serendipitous as well. Jeannette had recently become DSEA Treasurer and the Odyssey Charter School staff members (of which I was) were attempting to unionize. Jeannette very graciously answered the many questions I had about the process and had a ton of knowledge about DSEA and the unionization process. It was clear that she was very excited, positive and enthusiastic about her position at DSEA and that she truly wanted to do the best job possible.

We attended more computer science training sessions together at the University of Delaware, and both became active in the Computer Science Teacher Association. From the beginning Jeannette has not only been a friend and colleague but a great DSEA resource. She was also a huge help before, during and after my transition to the Brandywine School District. I can always count on Jeannette for a quick and helpful answer to any questions and/or help that I need. She has a solid work ethic, is enthusiastic about everything she does, and I wholeheartedly recommend her for DSEA Vice President.

Sincerely,
